About Lee and Creative Pottery

After studying at Harrow School of Art, I set up my first pottery studio in Sheffield in the 1980s (the image above of me and my daughter at a craft fair in the late 1980s shows some of my early work). I then moved to the Hope Valley where I taught family and adult pottery classes for Derbyshire County Council for 30 years. I also spent over 25 years teaching pottery as a creative therapy at a mental health hospital in Rotherham and studied for an MSc in Art as Environment at Manchester Metropolitan University.

In 2019, I set up Creative Pottery, a studio and gallery at Hope Valley Garden Centre, Derbyshire. Here, I offer a wide range of classes to suit all ages, abilities and experience levels. I am also passionate about creating pottery myself and display and sell a range of my pieces, some created to demonstrate techniques during student lessons. See my Facebook feed for more recent updates.

I hope you enjoy browsing my website. Please contact me if you are interested in discussing pottery lessons, buying any of my pottery that isn't yet available online or commissioning a specific piece. Or if you just fancy a chat about the creative arts!

BENEFITS OF CREATIVE POTTERY

Boost your mental health

Having a background in creative therapy for mental health, I am only too familiar with the many benefits that creative pottery work can have for people's mental health. Taking time out from our busy lives to try our hands at something completely new, or to enhance a skill base is something that can benefit anyone at any stage of their life.

I have students of all ages, from young children to octogenarians. While the lessons and the pieces we create together will differ based on the needs of the student, the mental health benefits apply equally to all.
