CREATIVE POTTERY: SHARING THE GIFT OF CREATIVITY

Pottery classes, ceramic art gallery and pottery for sale

Run by Lee Waterman

CLASSES FOR ALL

I have taught people of all ages and abilities for almost three decades - from toddlers to octogenarians. I offer creative, fun and unique lessons on a one-to-one or group basis.

Why not try your hand at throwing on the wheel, hand modelling and many other techniques.

Lessons can be arranged by the hour, from taster sessions to a set of structured lessons. I also run half and full day workshops for a more immersive experience. I am always flexible and can design a class or workshop to suit your needs.

More information about my classes can be found below. Alternatively please get in touch to discuss booking a session.

GALLERY, SALES AND COMMISSIONS

Unfortunately, due to Covid-19, my pottery classes are currently suspended. I am really missing seeing my regular students and welcoming new ones, but I am using this time to create more pottery myself.

Below is a selection of my work and more is available on my gallery page. Please get in touch for prices of these items, to see other pieces or to commission a bespoke piece. I have a secure online payment facility and can arrange for safe delivery or collection of any items purchased.

CLASSES

I'm pleased to provide a wide variety of classes fitting all skill levels and mediums. Are you keen to get hands on and learn the skill of pottery making? Learn more about each class below, and get in touch today with any questions. There is a small charge for the finished items due to the material and energy costs of making and firing them.

HOURLY SESSIONS

My fully flexible hourly sessions are a simple way to start your creative journey. I recommend one and a half to two hours per session, but I can offer whatever length suits you.

Sessions are generally Thurs-Sun during the daytime, but I can arrange other hours to suit and run an evening class on a Thursday.

£12 per hour for adults and £8 per hour for children.

HALF AND FULL DAY WORKSHOPS

My beginners full day workshop is an introduction to throwing, handbuilding with slabs or coils, modelling and sculpture, and using glazes and colour. £70 per person.

My intermediate and advanced full day workshops are for those with experience and develop these techniques. £80 per person.

Half day courses are also available

CHILD AND FAMILY CLASSES

Techniques vary depending on age, but hand modelling and throwing on a small wheel are messy, fun and suitable for almost all children. I can theme classes around your child's interests, such as favourite animals or TV characters.

ABOUT ME

Creative Pottery by Lee Waterman

After studying at Harrow School of Art, I set up my first pottery studio in Sheffield in the 1980s. I then moved to the Hope Valley where I taught family and adult pottery classes for Derbyshire County Council for over 25 years. I also spent over 20 years teaching pottery as a creative therapy at a mental health hospital in Rotherham and studied for an MSc in Art as Environment at Manchester Metropolitan University.

In 2019, I set up Creative Pottery, a studio and gallery at Hope Valley Garden Centre, Derbyshire. Here, I offer a wide range of classes to suit all ages, abilities and experience levels. I am also passionate about creating pottery myself and display and sell a range of my pieces, some created to demonstrate techniques during student lessons. See my Facebook feed for more recent updates.

I hope you enjoy browsing my website. Please contact me if you are interested in discussing pottery lessons, buying any of my pottery or commissioning your own design. Or if you just fancy a chat about the creative arts.

THE BENEFITS OF CREATIVE POTTERY

Boost your mental health

Having a background in creative therapy for mental health, I am only too familiar with the many benefits that creative pottery work can have for people's mental health. Taking time out from our busy lives to try our hands at something completely new, or to build up a different skill base is something that can benefit anyone at any stage of their life.

I have students of all ages, from young children to octogenarians. While the lessons and the pieces we create together will differ based on the needs of the student, the mental health benefits apply equally to all.
